2012 NHL Draft - Who would you draft for your team?

I have been more interested in the draft this year, than in years, likely because the Habs have a top 3 pick due to the poor season, not to mention with all the organizational changes, this will likely be the first place we get to see how Bergevin would like to shape the team.

Habs also have 5 picks in the top 65, so either some interesting possibilities with keeping the picks or making some trades.

From my perspective, I just hope the Habs don't draft one of the top 2 D-men in the draft - they have been drafting D with first picks the last few years. And while I think that Grigorenko might have the most potential (after Yakupov), I also think he might be the biggest "bust" risk.

I have been looking around at all the different mock drafts to get some sort of consensus, but it seems lots of shifting of rankings has been happening the last few weeks.

If you are into looking over mock drafts, or just want some insight as to who might be available when your team drafts, there is a Mock Draft Database that lists most of the "bigger" ones, so you can go back and see who has updated theirs and when.

If it were up to me, I would order my picks as: Yakupov, Forsberg, and then Galchenyuk, with Murray and Dumba as the outside candidates (in that order) if the Habs decide to go D again this year.

I think the Habs take Forsberg.

The only caveat: if Roy is named as coach, then I think they are going to take Grigorenko.

(Or if they take Grigorenko, then they will hire Roy to coach.)

What do you think your team will do? What do you think your team should do?

IMO: This is long overdue. From the sounds of it, there is still a long way to go as there is no new lease in place and from what I can gather, it sounds like one side or the other is talking about the City fronting something on the order of $20 Million a year. I predict that if the sale goes through, and with this year's post-season success, there will be an increase in season's ticket sales next year and perhaps the year after. Attendance will go up, and everyone will talk about how great it is, and how it just goes to show that it can work, yadda yadda yadda...
Snow was quoted as saying no big changes this offseason.......which translates into he is going to try to get someone big.

If there was EVER a time for the NY Islanders to make a huge impact trade or signing......this is the year. How much pressure would Nassau County be under to make something happen if the Islanders were one of the top teams in the NHL? Time is ticking and it's going to be a lot easier to disregard the Islanders if they suck and keep missing the playoffs.

Look at LA. First off that team has so much talent there is no excuse for the bad start. But Richards and Carter in the offseason.......had to give up some good players for each......guys they drafted and had high hopes for (Schenn, JJ, etc.). Could Snow do something like that for nash?

While I believe Lou and Parise want to get something done......no one can argue that after watching this years playoff that is one player that every GM in the NHL is drooling over. Who wouldn't want to slap a C on the guy and have him lead the team? He is going to get HUGE bucks this year and I have a sneaky suspicion Lou MIGHT not be able to pull this off. But damn Lou is good LOL.

Anyways, back to the real point. Parise's dad played for the Isles....they should have drafted him (not really relevant in this part of post), HE KNOWS THE AREA and KNOWS THAT LONG ISLAND IS AWESOME TO LIVE ON......hence all the guys that don't want to leave once they get there. So what is usually the hardest selling point.......is not even an issue which is much bigger than many think.

LL owes Snow for taking Rolston off his hands and helping him out. Could this be why? LL and ZP can't agree.....here's Snow with an Erhoff like move......um let's hope it ends better.

And finally the biggest reason he may want to come to Long Island? John Tavares. Although Matt Moulson and JT have a great chemistry.

Just throwing it out there. Besides some free agent signings on Defense.....ahh screw it I am gonna stop dreaming and get ready to get slapped back into reality......ready Geduf? GO !!

GO !!

So I thought I would start a thread for the upcoming IIHF World Championship, which gets underway this weekend, I believe.

The roster for Team Canada:

Evander Kane
Corey Perry
Jordan Eberle
Ryan Getzlaf ( C )
Andrew Ladd
John Tavares
Jamie Benn
Teddy Purcell
Ryan O'Reilly
Alexandre Burrows
Jeff Skinner
Patrick Sharp (A)
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins

Duncan Keith
Dion Phaneuf (A)
Jay Bouwmeester
Luke Schenn
Marc Methot
Marc-Edouard Vlasic
(PK Subban - injured and out of the tournament)

Cam Ward
Matt Hackett
Devan Dubnyk

...

Not really great in goal. Not sure about the defence, but there are some great forwards on this team. Should be an interesting tournament.

The US team...

Kyle Palmieri
Bobby Ryan
Ryan Lasch
Cam Atkinson
Joey Crabb
Justin Abdelkader
Jim Slater
Kyle Okposo
J.T. Borwn
Paul Stastny
Patrick Dwyer
Nate Thompson
Max Pacioretty

Jeff Petry
Jack Johnson
Cam Fowler
Alex Goligoski
Justin Braun
Justin Faulk
Chris Butler

Richard Bachman
Jimmy Howard
John Curry

...

This makes me feel a lot better about Canada's forwards. Goaltending is good on this team, and the defence is interesting... not great, but a few really big names...
